At its essence, ‘Nevertheless’ is a song of defiance, but also of realistic appreciation of the difficulties that exist in bleak times.
With a main lyric borrowed from Orwell ‘double-speak’ - which describes deliberately euphemistic, ambiguous, or obscure language - ‘Nevertheless’ is looks towards self-assurance, in a time when meaning is malleable.
lyrics
Verse 1:
Pulled in a, feedback loop,
As sharp tongues melee with the truth.
Oh, I can’t believe you’re saying this,
I can’t believe you’re saying this,
I find myself saying this, time, and time again.
Chorus 1:
Go on and lead with doublespeak,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
And while there’s turmoil inside me,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
It’s not hard to break,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
This outlook that’s bleak.
Verse 2:
Take a look what’s happened offscreen,
Hands have raised in the streets,
All the characters in your reach,
but not a man of one.
Chorus 2:
Go on and lead with doublespeak,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
And while there’s turmoil inside me,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
It’s not hard to break,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
This outlook that’s bleak.
Final Chorus:
Go on and lead with doublespeak,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
And while there’s turmoil inside me,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
It’s not hard to break,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
This outlook that’s bleak.
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless),
We both know what you mean,
(Nevertheless, Nevertheless, Nevertheless).

The sound of “NOW! 2073” is also the sound of 1983: laser-like minimalist electropop that flirts with coldwave and dance music. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 4, 2021
